Egley Train Boise & Mountain Home

Kids American Jiu-Jitsu: confidence you'll see at home.

Parents don't sign their kids up for armlocks. You're here for a kid who stands up straighter, focuses longer, and knows what to do when someone pushes them — on the playground or anywhere else. American Jiu-Jitsu is how we build that.

Meet your kid's Coaches

Boise — Coach Emily & Coach Peyton. Eight years of kids coaching between them — Coach Peyton five, Coach Emily three. One of them will be kneeling next to your child on day one.

Mountain Home — Coach Randi, three years coaching kids, alongside owner Coach Michael Egley — a kids Coach himself for eight years and counting.

How kids' classes work, plainly: every drill is instructional, every moment is visible from the parent area, and you're welcome matside at every class — not just the first one. No sparring for beginners. Nothing your child isn't ready for.

What parents actually see

Parents tell us the same things, over and over: more confidence, better focus, a kid who can't wait to get to class. Not because we lecture kids about character — because every class makes them earn a little win in front of people, and that changes how they carry themselves everywhere.

"Egley Train Boise Jiu Jitsu has been an incredible experience for my 9-year-old. The instructors not only teach the technical aspects of Jiu Jitsu but also emphasize discipline, focus, and other important tenets of martial arts."
— James Miller, Google review
"My kids are learning more than just physical training — they are learning powerful tools to incorporate in their day to day life & how to maturely interact with peers and adults."
— Constance Bostaph, Google review

Split by age, on purpose

A 4-year-old and an 11-year-old need completely different rooms. So they get them:

  • Lil' Kids (3–5) — movement, listening, taking turns, tiny wins. Classes are short because attention spans are.
  • Kids (6–12) — real American Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals, discipline with warmth, and bully-proofing the way it actually works: confidence, boundaries, staying calm, getting away and getting help — and the physical skill to protect themselves if they ever truly need it. Never aggression.
  • Around age 12? Placement depends on your child, not the birthday. Your Coach will recommend Kids or Teens after meeting them at the Free Private Lesson.

Shy kid? Normal here — plenty walk in quiet and leave asking when they can come back. Shy is not a problem; shy is a starting point.

Endless-energy kid? Also normal here. We don't suppress that energy — we give it somewhere to go, and a Coach who's seen wilder. Structure with warmth is the whole method.

Got a teenager?

Teens don't belong in the kids' room, and they know it.

What your child's first lesson looks like

Here's the honest reason the first lesson is private: your Coaches don't expect a new child to walk in knowing how to behave in an American Jiu-Jitsu class. Meeting them one-on-one first is exactly how we avoid throwing your kid into a room and hoping they adjust.

Thirty minutes with a Coach who teaches their age group every week — long enough to learn something real, short enough for a kid's attention span. Simple movements, clear instructions, small wins. No sparring, no crowd, no getting thrown into anything — and your Coach moves at your child's speed, even if lesson one is mostly watching from matside with you. That's not a failed lesson. That's how some great students start.

Tried a class somewhere else and your kid hated it? Tell the Coach exactly that. A private first lesson exists precisely so this start can be different.

Afterward, your Coach will tell you honestly where your child fits — and if it's a fit, show you what ongoing training looks like. No pressure, no surprises.

Dress them in comfortable clothes they can move in. We provide the rest.

The first win is just showing up.
